Seeing Wind in a New Way

As anyone who has been on a boat knows - there is no such thing as a "steady wind" - it's constantly moving - changing in speed and direction. In this Advanced MWU Advanced Class - Chris Bedford takes us "behind the scenes" to understand why the wind changes. Use that knowledge to help predict those changes. Here's some of the questions this course will address:

  • What are wind shifts?
  • What causes those shifts and puffs and lulls?
  • How can these shifts be characterized?
  • Can weather models predict wind shifts?
  • How can we predict the character of the wind?
  • How can understanding the wind's character help us predict wind shifts?
  • Should I go left or right to get to my destination fastest?
  • How do America's Cup teams gain by assessing the wind?

SAILORS & RACERS: This class will greatly enhance your understanding and knowledge of wind's changes.

This Class Has a Prerequisite!

Wind Shifts 201 is an advanced, stand-alone class that builds on the knowledge taught in MWU's Class #3 - Assessing the Wind. That class is part of both of MWU's acclaimed full-length courses: the Fundamentals Course and the Advanced Course. To ensure students get the most out of this new class - Wind Shifts 201 -we are requiring Class #3 as a minimum prerequisite.

If you are already enrolled in MWU's Advanced Course or Fundamentals Course - you meet the prerequisite and can enroll directly in this class.

For new students needing to meet the prerequisite - MWU is providing three options to "bundle" with Wind Shifts 201:

We encourage you to consider enrolling in one of our full-length courses with a very special discount offer. At a minimum you will need to bundle with Class #3.

Please play fair - students that enroll directly in this class without meeting the minimum class prerequisite will be unenrolled and have their tuition refunded.
